Over 2.5 Odds to Over 1.5 and 3.5: Fair Prices for Each Goal Line
Using 75,513 European matches, I turned the Over 2.5 price into a ladder of fair odds for every goal line from Over 0.5 to Over 4.5.

Most bettors know roughly what an Over 2.5 price means, but the neighbouring lines are fuzzier. When I build my scoreline predictions, I want to know what a 2.00 Over 2.5 says about two goals, four goals or five. So I took 75,513 matches across 22 European divisions, sorted them by the pre-match Over 2.5 price, and recorded how often each goal line actually landed.
The headline: with Over 2.5 in the 1.90–2.09 band, Over 1.5 landed 72.8% of the time, which is fair odds of 1.37. Over 3.5 landed 25.7%, fair odds of 3.89. At the extremes the spread is wide. A short Over 2.5 under 1.50 puts fair Over 1.5 at 1.14, and a long one at 2.40+ pushes fair Over 3.5 out to 6.49.
Test 1The Over 2.5 price tracks actual goals very closely
Before building anything on the Over 2.5 price, I had to check that it deserves to be the anchor. This chart strips the margin out of the Over and Under prices and sets the implied probability against what actually happened, band by band.
In the middle band the match is almost exact. The price implied 47.5% and the real rate was 47.7%. At the short end the market slightly undersold goals, implying 67.9% against an actual 70.0%. At the long end it slightly oversold them, implying 36.7% against 35.2%.

| Priced (no margin) | Actual | 95% range | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 1.50 (4,504 matches) | 67.9% | 70.0% | ±1.3 |
| 1.50–1.69 (12,455 matches) | 58.8% | 59.7% | ±0.9 |
| 1.70–1.89 (18,780 matches) | 52.6% | 53.0% | ±0.7 |
| 1.90–2.09 (18,281 matches) | 47.5% | 47.7% | ±0.7 |
| 2.10–2.39 (15,759 matches) | 42.6% | 41.6% | ±0.8 |
| 2.40+ (5,734 matches) | 36.7% | 35.2% | ±1.2 |
Those gaps are small, and both lean the same way: very short Overs did a touch better than priced and very long ones a touch worse. For my purposes, the price is a reliable ruler, and that is what makes the rest of the ladder usable.
Test 2Each Over 2.5 band maps to a full set of fair odds
This is the table I keep open. Find the Over 2.5 band your match sits in, then read across for the hit rate and fair odds on every other line. Fair odds here are simply one divided by the observed frequency. They are a break-even reference, not a price anyone will offer you.
Look at the 1.50–1.69 band. Over 1.5 landed 81.8% (fair 1.22) and Over 3.5 landed 36.4% (fair 2.75). In the shortest band Over 3.5 is close to a coin flip at 47.5%, fair 2.11. Over 4.5 is the line that moves most sharply, from 27.9% (fair 3.58) in the shortest band down to 5.7% (fair 17.54) in the longest.
| Over 2.5 price | Matches | Over 0.5 | Over 1.5 | Over 2.5 | Over 3.5 | Over 4.5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under 1.50 | 4,504 | 97.5% (1.03) | 88.0% (1.14) | 70.0% (1.43) | 47.5% (2.11) | 27.9% (3.58) |
| 1.50–1.69 | 12,455 | 95.2% (1.05) | 81.8% (1.22) | 59.7% (1.68) | 36.4% (2.75) | 19.2% (5.21) |
| 1.70–1.89 | 18,780 | 93.6% (1.07) | 77.1% (1.30) | 53.0% (1.89) | 29.8% (3.36) | 14.2% (7.04) |
| 1.90–2.09 | 18,281 | 92.3% (1.08) | 72.8% (1.37) | 47.7% (2.10) | 25.7% (3.89) | 11.8% (8.47) |
| 2.10–2.39 | 15,759 | 89.8% (1.11) | 68.4% (1.46) | 41.6% (2.40) | 20.9% (4.78) | 8.8% (11.36) |
| 2.40+ | 5,734 | 87.6% (1.14) | 63.4% (1.58) | 35.2% (2.84) | 15.4% (6.49) | 5.7% (17.54) |
The caveat that matters most: every cell is an average for a whole band of European league football. A match inside a band can sit well away from that average, and leagues with different scoring habits may not map prices the same way. I treat the ladder as a starting point that a specific read then has to beat.
Test 3Over 1.5 holds up while Over 3.5 collapses
Split the prices more finely and the three main lines tell different stories. Over 1.5 fell from 89.6% below 1.40 to 60.1% at 2.70+. That is a real drop, but even in the longest band two goals still arrived more often than not.
Over 3.5 falls much harder, from 51.6% to 11.5%, so in relative terms it shrinks to a fraction of its starting rate. Over 2.5 sits between them, moving from 72.7% to 29.0%. The lines run roughly parallel through the middle prices and then fan apart at the long end, where the smallest band holds the fewest matches.
Smallest band: 2.70+ with 1,075 matches.

For Correct Score work this is the useful part. A long Over 2.5 does not mean a goalless match. It means the shape tilts towards 1-0, 1-1 and 2-0 rather than towards nothing at all, and four-goal games become genuinely rare.
Lab verdict
| Price neighbouring lines first | Before backing Over 1.5 or Over 3.5, read the fair odds from the Over 2.5 band. At 1.90–2.09 that means 1.37 and 3.89, and anything shorter than those is paying below break-even on the averages. |
|---|---|
| Long Overs still produce goals | Even at Over 2.5 of 2.40+, Over 1.5 landed 63.4% and Over 0.5 87.6%. Low-scoring markets in these games need a specific reason beyond the price. |
| Over 4.5 rewards caution | Over 4.5 drops from 27.9% to 5.7% across the bands, with fair odds out at 17.54 in the longest. Treat it as a short-priced-Over-2.5 market only, and compare any offer strictly against the ladder. |
Questions bettors ask
What are fair Over 1.5 odds if Over 2.5 is around 2.00?
In the 1.90–2.09 Over 2.5 band, Over 1.5 landed 72.8% of the time, which gives fair odds of 1.37. That is a break-even figure with no margin, so a real price will usually be shorter.
How often does Over 3.5 land when Over 2.5 is short?
With Over 2.5 priced under 1.50, Over 3.5 landed 47.5% across 4,504 matches, fair odds of 2.11. In the 1.50–1.69 band it fell to 36.4%, fair 2.75.
Is the Over 2.5 price accurate enough to build on?
Broadly, yes. In the 1.90–2.09 band the margin-free price implied 47.5% and the actual rate was 47.7%. The extremes showed small gaps in opposite directions.
