I'm Sophie Lancaster, and I ended up writing about football betting because I couldn't stop watching individual players when everyone else was watching the team. I used to play, briefly and not particularly well, and that left me with a habit of tracking small things: where someone moves before a corner is taken, who actually wants the ball when a match is tight, which forwards drift wide because they're tired of running the channel. Three years ago that habit became a notebook of player tendencies, and the notebook eventually became the kind of analysis people pay attention to.\n\nI work mostly on Player Props and First Goalscorer markets. They don't reward you for liking a name. They reward you for understanding role. A striker on a 12-goal run can be a poor first goalscorer pick if his side starts slowly and his manager prefers to keep things tight for twenty minutes. A central midfielder nobody talks about can be the right shots-on-target play because his manager has quietly turned him into a set-piece target. The headline names get the prices. The supporting cast often gets the value, and that's the part of preview work I genuinely enjoy.\n\nI try to write the way I'd talk to a friend who already knows the players. No posturing about systems, no jargon for jargon's sake. Just here's why this player, here's what would have to happen for it to land, and here's the reason I'm less sure than the price suggests I should be. Player markets swing harder than match markets, and I'd rather you went in with eyes open than walk away thinking I'd promised something I hadn't.
